Community events help finalise walking and wheeling plans
An update on the recent events we hosted to help develop Local Walking Action Plans for communities around Scotland.
The Sustaining Choices project has been successfully running in Ruthrieston, Fa’side, Eskdalemuir, and Kelty; developing Local Walking Action Plans to make walking and wheeling safer, easier, and more accessible for all.
The draft action plans for each area were shared at events throughout February and March. The events aimed to gather feedback on the work completed to date to help finalise the plans, and provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions and make suggestions.
Ruthrieston
On Friday 14 March we were at the Ruthrieston Community Centre for a guided walk followed by crafting and a discussion of the new Local Walking Action Plan.
Fa’side
We spoke with residents at Tranent Library on Wednesday 5 March and Pencaitland Connections Café on Friday 7 March to hear their views on the plans and answer any questions.
Eskdalemuir
We held a visioning workshop on Saturday 15 March at the Eskdalemuir Community Hub to explore what the area could look like as a hub for walking, wheeling, and cycling.
Kelty
We met at the Kelty Community Centre on Monday 10 February for a short walk followed by a conversation to further develop the new Local Walking Action Plan.
Thank you to everyone who came along to the events. We will be sharing the final reports in the next month, so stay tuned for updates. We would also like to thank our volunteers who have helped us deliver this project, without you it wouldn’t be possible!
