Enhancing biodiversity and outdoor access in Garve

We are working with the local community to identify ways to improve the natural environment around the proposed Carn Fearna Wind Farm site.

Read the draft report

Following the in-person drop-in session in February and online survey at the beginning of March, Planning Aid Scotland have prepared a draft Independent Community Engagement report on the findings: Insights to shape a Biodiversity and Outdoor Management Plan for the proposed Carn Fearna Wind Farm

This draft report is provided for the local community to review and offer feedback on the findings before it is finalised. Once finalised, the report will be included as part of the Energy Consent Application for the proposed Carn Fearna Wind Farm development. It will also be shared with local residents, who may wish to take forward some of the suggested actions.

The survey will close on Monday 24 March at 11.59pm.

Background

Planning Aid Scotland hosted a community drop-in event, on behalf of Statkraft, on Thursday 27 February at Garve Public Hall. The event aimed to gather views from the local community on ways to improve the natural environment around the proposed Carn Fearna Wind Farm. Our role was to ensure that voices were heard and recorded in an open and impartial manner.

We discussed ways to improve biodiversity and outdoor access around the Carn Fearna site to maximise benefits for the local area and its inhabitants. Potential improvements included enhancing access to existing facilities (e.g. the playpark, football field, viewpoints), developing walking and cycling routes in the area, new information boards about local heritage, and ways to preserve and support the diverse range of plant and wildlife species in the area.

About the proposed wind farm

Statkraft is in the process of preparing a planning application for a new wind farm at Carn Fearna, approximately 1.5km northeast of the village of Garve in Ross-shire, within The Highlands Council area.

Previous consultation events have been organised by Statkraft regarding the principle of the proposed development. This event, organised by Planning Aid Scotland, focused on identifying enhancements to biodiversity and outdoor access in and around the proposed site.
