Johanna Boyd to chair conference on solutions to Scotland’s housing crisis
Johanna Boyd, Chief Executive of Planning Aid Scotland, will chair a conference on addressing Scotland’s housing crisis
Johanna Boyd, Chief Executive of Planning Aid Scotland, will chair an important conference on Tuesday 26 November, focused on addressing Scotland’s housing crisis. The event organised by Mackay Hannah, brings together key stakeholders to explore comprehensive solutions to the nation’s housing challenges.
Scotland is grappling with a national crisis as demand across all housing sectors far exceeds supply. The Scottish Government and local authorities have officially declared housing emergencies. Developers are facing significant challenges due to rising costs and supply-side constraints, while the affordable housing budget for 2024/25 has been cut by £196 million. As a result, both potential buyers and renters are struggling with unaffordable costs.
The conference will examine these challenges in three sessions:
- What is the nature of Scotland’s housing challenge?
- Addressing the supply side – policy, investment and planning
- Perspectives on finding ways forward
