New resource: Finding support for your island community

Are you looking for organisations that could help your island community take forward local ideas, develop projects or find specialist advice?

As part of the Island Communities Place Programme, Planning Aid Scotland has published a new resource to help island residents and community groups find organisations offering advice, information and support.

The Island Support Directory brings together organisations working across Scotland in a range of areas, including:

  • Island and rural community development
  • Climate action, land ownership and community-led projects
  • Environmental protection and local economies
  • Children and young people
  • Public bodies, information services and third sector networks

If you are looking for information, hoping to make new connections or seeking advice on a particular issue, the directory can help you identify organisations worth contacting.

About the Island Communities Place Programme

Funded by the Scottish Government, the Island Communities Place Programme provides free training, Q&A sessions, resources and one-to-one mentoring to help people living and working in Scotland’s islands understand the planning system and get involved in decisions affecting their communities.

The programme also supports communities interested in preparing Local Place Plans and Community Action Plans, engaging with renewable energy developments and involving more people in shaping their local area.
