A new chapter…

Planning Aid Scotland’s Chief Executive, Johanna Boyd, is stepping down after successfully leading the organisation for three years.

Today, we announce a change of leadership at Planning Aid Scotland as Johanna Boyd, our Chief Executive, has announced she will be stepping down from the role at the end of October.

Johanna joined Planning Aid Scotland in 2022 and has led the organisation during a period of growth and innovation. Reflecting on her time, Johanna shared:

“I have really seen the organisation grow during my time. Some of the highlights have been new developments such as rebranding the organisation, delivering our first Impact Report, transitioning to a 4-day week, and deepening our training offer.

I have also been lucky enough to witness the 30th anniversary – reflecting on the history of the organisation and recognising those who got us to this point. Hosting a Parliamentary reception and exhibition and bringing together everyone who has made Planning Aid Scotland a success was something very special.”

Later this year, Johanna will be taking on a new role as CEO of Revenue Scotland, the organisation responsible for collecting and managing Scotland’s devolved taxes.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Planning Aid Scotland and greatly value the relationships I have developed and the opportunities for growth I have received. From committed and caring Board Directors to inspiring volunteers – and of course my incredibly talented, kind and supportive colleagues – I am so proud of everything we have achieved together.”

I would like to extend my warmest thanks to you all and wish everyone the best for the future. I look forward to following Planning Aid Scotland’s journey as it enters what I’m sure will be another exciting chapter.”

Jill Paterson, Chair of Planning Aid Scotland, also reflected on Johanna’s leadership:

“As we navigate this transition, we are deeply grateful to Johanna for her motivational, innovative, and compassionate leadership. She has re-energised the organisation and helped focus our energy on our shared mission – empowering people to shape decisions about their place.

I would like to thank Johanna for her commitment to Planning Aid Scotland. I know she will be sorely missed by the Board, staff, and volunteers, but we all want to wish her the very best in her new role.”

Johanna will remain with Planning Aid Scotland until the end of October. The recruitment process for a new Chief Executive will begin shortly, and more details will be shared in due course.

“Johanna leaves us in good shape, having just finalised our new strategy that sets out a clear vision for the coming years. In line with our new value ‘innovation’, Johanna has also laid the groundwork for establishing Planning Aid Scotland as a Centre of Excellence and Innovation – a bold and exciting new step for us. We’re confident that our next Chief Executive will be able to build on this momentum and guide us into this next chapter.”
