Training for Community Councils

We can provide bespoke Community Council training to help you understand Scotland’s planning system and how to navigate it for the best of your community. Sessions can be tailored to your needs, providing an overview of the system, as well as focusing on issues relevant to your area.

Training for elected members

📍In-person/online

We deliver online and in-person training events for elected members. Whilst relevant to all elected members, this training is particularly aimed at those serving on a planning committee. The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 now requires training for all members who perform a planning function.

Community
engagement skills

Skills Training

This half-day interactive workshop will develop your skills, knowledge and confidence as a community engagement practitioner and teach you how to use the SP=EED® framework.

SP=EED Verification

📍Online

SP=EED Verification assesses your competence in using the SP=EED approach to engagement. After attending the Community Engagement Skills Training, you will prepare a written reflective-learning submission with mentoring support from a dedicated Planning Aid Scotland staff member.

Place Standard Tool

Place Standard Training

📍In-person/online

The Place Standard Tool (PST) supports community engagement by helping to structure conversations about the physical, social, cultural and economic aspects of a place. Our Place Standard Training will introduce you to the tool, the various adapted versions (children, climate), and teach you how to use it for community engagement events. The training will also provide insights into facilitation techniques that can be used alongside the Place Standard Tool to support community engagement activities.

Online and
bespoke training

Free online training

This programme of free online training offers a practical introduction to engaging with the planning system. These webinars are part of a series of training sessions delivered by Planning Aid Scotland and funded by the Scottish Government through the National Planning Hub.

This series of webinars is now complete. You can watch recordings of all the sessions on our YouTube playlist. These will be available for three months.
